Longtime park board member Mike Limbaugh has been chosen to serve as the board's president.

Limbaugh, who was first elected to the board of directors of the Hesperia Recreation and Park District in 1997, was selected by his fellow members to lead the body for the next year at their December meeting Wednesday night.

"Well, this year will be another lean year for the district," Limbaugh said Saturday. "We have, however, been saving for the proposed skate park and BMX track. If the design and plans can be completed, we would be out to bid quickly.

"The city of Hesperia several months ago chose the park district to operate the Hesperia golf course and the long term agreement is ready to go. The park (district) looks forward to working with the city over the years to provide the residents (of) the High Desert a great place to play golf.

"Our board of directors and park staff are excited about the coming year and will continue to provide the wide variety of programs and activities to the people in our community."

Veteran board member (and Hesperia Star columnist) Bob Chandler was chosen to serve as vice-president.

The next meeting of the Hesperia Recreation and Park District board of directors will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 18 at the district offices at Lime Street Park Community Center, 16292 Lime St.
