After five years of an increasingly popular movies in the park series, the Hesperia Recreation and Park District is planning on branching out to live music.

The free concerts will be held at Hesperia Civic Plaza Park, the same venue that the park district puts on its annual Movies in the Park series on selected Saturdays from June through August. The movies regularly attract hundreds of spectators throughout the summer.

The concert series was advertised in the Winter 2012 edition of the park district's programs and activities guide.

Apple Valley hosts a popular free Summer Concert series Thursdays from June through August at Civic Center Park.

Hesperia resident Sarah Alvarado said she likes the possibility of staying in Hesperia for entertainment and would consider attending the series.

"It'll be nice to actually have something to do in Hesperia," Alvarado said.

Park officials declined to comment on the concert series until after the board had considered the issue at this week's meeting of the board of directors.

The next meeting of the Hesperia Recreation and Park District board begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Lime Street Park Community Center. For more information, call (760) 244-5488.
