It was a very good year for the junior high school Patriots: Hesperia Christian's baseball team finished their season with a perfect 12-0 record.

"This team is very coachable," head coach Michael Munoz said. "They are more than willing to pay their dues through lots of hard work at practice."

Munoz credited an advanced-for-their-years defense and a deep bench of five pitchers for part of the team's success.

The Patriots kicked off Mountain Valley Christian League playoff season at home Friday night, squaring off against the Bloomington Christian Ravens, whom they beat 5-1.

The Patriots dominated their regular season opponents, often running up double-digit scores while never allowing their opponents to do so, and twice shutting out opponents completely.

"There is a strong 'we not me' attitude woven into the fabric of these boys," Munoz said. "(Assistant Coach John) Hooper and I are truly blessed to be involved with this program. We are having a blast with these boys!"

The team's next game will be today. The location and venue had not been decided at press time.
