Residents adopting animals from the Hesperia Animal Shelter will only have to make a short trip next-door starting next month to get their new family member ready to go home.

"We're reopening the clinic at the city of Hesperia's animal control building," veterinarian Bill Connelly said. "It's probably been dormant for eight years."

Hesperia Veterinary Services will provide spaying and neutering, vaccines and examinations.

"I've worked in a number of clinics in the area," Connelly said, of the eight years he's been in the Victor Valley.

When he decided to open his own practice again, he said the city made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

"I'm kind of calling it 'Discount Pet Surgery Center No. 1.' If it works, I'll replicate it," Connelly said, hoping to add other locations down the line.

The site is currently being remodeled with a Western decor befitting Connelly's status as a former Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association veterinarian. He and his wife also starred in the music video for Dan Seals' 1986 country music hit, "All that Glitters is not Gold."

Connelly hopes to open the clinic on April 1. Grooming will also be available, by groomer Oscar Herndon.
