Four Oak Hills High School students are heading to Washington, D.C. in June to compete in the final championship round of the 2012 Army JROTC Leadership Symposium.

After advancing through two phases of competition, the Oak Hills JROTC leadership team composed of Peter Camba, Leonel Gonzalez, Jered Miller and Tyler Gentry will compete at the symposium on the campus of George Mason University June 22 to 26. The event is sponsored by the Army JROTC and conducted by College Options Foundation.

During two rounds of competitive online play, the Oak Hills' JROTC team earned top scores out of the 1,345 teams that competed from across the world to win a place in the National Leadership Symposium and the all expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. In these fast-paced rounds cadets were tested on their knowledge of leadership values and skills including leadership tenets from Gen. George C. Marshall. The team is one of only 40 leadership teams in the nation and abroad to advance to the finals, according to a press release.

The competition creates opportunities for JROTC cadets by allowing them to demonstrate leadership and academic abilities.
