A Hesperia motorist is being held on a half million dollars in bail after he allegedly fled the scene of a fatal collision.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Chris Bentley, 28, struck and killed Brian Jones, 30, Sunday night, shortly after 11 p.m. Jones was crossing Escondido Avenue, near Major Place.

Witnesses were able to describe the Chevrolet Suburban and motorist involved in the incident, and after the motorist fled south on Escondido, gave the information to Deputy Jeff Allison.

Deputies searched the neighborhood, and found a vehicle matching the witnesses' description: Bentley's vehicle.

Bentley was arrested on a charge of felony hit and run causing death and booked into Victor Valley Jail. His bail was set at $500,000. Drugs and alcohol are believed to be a factor in the incident.
