HESPERIA • A Hesperia man is behind bars for allegedly sexually abusing several young girls and investigators are searching for more victims, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Hesperia station officials said.
Victor Manuel Gayton, 48, was arrested Tuesday for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14, continuous sexual abuse of a child and sodomy of a child under the age of 14, according to sheriff's booking reports.
A woman contacted the Hesperia station Tuesday afternoon to report her daughter had been sexually abused, reportedly at the hands of Gayton, according to a release. Deputy Scott Nobles interviewed the girl and learned several others girls may have been victimized by Gayton. How long the abuse went on was not immediately released, and officials didn't disclose the relationship between the victims and Gayton.
Detectives Jeff Allison and Mike New joined in the investigation and were able to obtain a warrant for Gayton's arrest.
Gayton was located at his home in the 16500 block of Sultana Street late Tuesday night and he was arrested. He was booked into Victor Valley Jail and is being held on $250,000 bail.
A search of court records shows Gayton doesn't have any convictions in San Bernardino County.
This investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information on this case or who may have been victimized by Gayton is asked to contact the Hesperia station at (760) 947-1500 or call WeTip at (800) 78-CRIME.
