HESPERIA • Quick-acting investigators were able to arrest a man wanted for allegedly sexually abusing a teen girl before the man was able to flee the country, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Hesperia station officials said Wednesday.
Miguel Angel Corral Zavala, 33, of Hesperia is currently being held at the Victor Valley station where he was placed on an immigration hold, according to sheriff's reports.
Deputies John Clough and Mark Smoot were called out to a home in the 16000 block of Spruce Street on Monday, according to a release. The mother of the victim reported she had just learned a relative had been sexually abusing her teen daughter and the abuse had been taking place for at least three years.
Detective Paul Bader was able to identify Zavala as the attacker and learned the 33-year-old may be trying to leave the country, sheriff's officials said.
Clough and Smoot were able to locate Zavala at a Motel 6 a short time later, records show.
Zavala was arrested and booked for rape by force or fear, sex with a minor, lewd and lascivious acts with child under 14, and lewd and lascivious acts with child at least 10 years younger. He is being held on $250,000 bail and was also placed on an immigration hold.
