The following letter was sent home with Sultana High School students on Thursday, February 21, 2008:
Dear Parents/Guardians:

At the end of the school day yesterday we were made aware of a serious situation at our site. A very conscientious student informed staff about a "hit list" written by another Sultana student.

Immediately our staff detained and secured the student who created the list, contacted School Police and notified District officials. Shortly thereafter, law enforcement took the student into custody, searched the home, and began an official investigation. Everyone on "the list" was contacted last night.

I want to commend SHS staff for their immediate and effective response. I also want to acknowledge our Hesperia School Police for their involvement, which lasted well into the night, and the cooperative efforts of the Hesperia Police and Captain Clark.

Student safety is an absolute priority for us. The continued involvement of parents and community members allows us to work together to provide a safe learning environment for all. This is a very unfortunate event, but together we have avoided a potential tragedy.

Please feel free to contact my office if you have any questions, or have any additional information.

Sincerely,
Tracy March
Principal
