After years of sitting empty, the building that once housed several restaurants on the southeast corner of Main Street and Ninth Avenue is now the new home of Los Domingos Restaurant.
Marcilino and Gloria Lopez, business owners of the popular Mexican eatery, would not comment, but Roberto Cuarezma, spokesman for the restaurant, said the move across the street to Hesperia Town Center was due to financial reasons.
The restaurant's nightclub was closed several months ago for the same reason, and it is not part of the eatery that opened Friday night.
"Without the nightclub, the old place was just too big for them," Cuarezma said before the opening. "The new place will have still have a conference room for meetings and parties, and will have all new furniture."
A grand opening is still in the works, according to a restaurant hostess.
Over the years, the town center building had housed The Golden Corral and Spires restaurants, the Broadway Cafe and an eatery offering a Civil War experience.
Los Domingos serves breakfast, and the new menu offers new food additions as well as promotions for
children and seniors.
Several business owners in the Rose Plaza said they are sorry to see the
restaurant move, and hope a business will quickly occupy the building.
"I know there was a shooting a while back at the nightclub, but overall it's been pretty quiet," said Bruce Jarvis, an agent at Farmers Insurance Group, located a few feet from the restaurant's former building on Main Street just east of Eighth Avenue. "They've been good neighbors, and I wish them well."
