Relay For Life of Hesperia is kicking off the "Paint the Town Purple" campaign this week, which runs through April 20.

Businesses, schools and residents will be decking out their locations in as much purple as possible to support the community's cancer survivors and to get ready for the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life event on April 20 at Hesperia Civic Plaza Park.

Some of the businesses involved so far include Walmart, KO Pizza, Hesperia Unified School District and Simply Cake, who will have a special Relay cupcake with a portion of the proceeds going back to the American Cancer Society.

There will also be a competition for the best decorated location. The top three winners will be recognized at the Relay event.

Those interested can submit a photo to either Danielle.chrisinger@cancer.org or send a picture text to 760-523-6336, or they may request for organizers to come out and take a picture.

Relay for Life is a 24-hour walking event, involving teams supporting the American Cancer Society's mission to educate, fund raise for research and fight back against cancer. The Hesperia event will be held April 20 and 21 at the Hesperia Civic Center beginning at 10 a.m. and feature an opening ceremony lap celebrating survivors and caretakers. A luminaria ceremony will take place at 9 p.m. April 20.

Event organizers are still looking for teams, cancer survivors and anyone who cared for someone with cancer. For more info go to www.relayforlife.org/hesperiaca or call 760-523-6336.
