Hello, Hesperia! I found out there's always something to enjoy in our city even a high school fundraiser Father's Day car wash and barbecue. What a treat for everyone who attended.

When I arrived at the June 14 event, athletes from the football team were lined up waiting to wash cars with the help of RTC Cleaning, who volunteered their employees, supplies and water to help the football team.

The food was delicious! We had tri-tip, cheesy potatoes, corn on the cob, dinner rolls and an apple crisp dessert. Debbie Peterson, a member of the booster club, put the delicious meal together.

Before you could blink, a band of teachers who call themselves "The Educators" showed up and began playing music for everyone to enjoy. The old and young alike could be seen dancing to the music. There were games and prizes and someone even won a two-day trip to State Line for getting a hole-in-one in a round of golf.

I was so glad to have heard about it from friends. I don't have any children in Oak Hills High School, except my son who is a teacher there. It was an evening event and you couldn't have asked for nicer weather. It was just a great time for me meeting a lot of the players and their parents too.

I wanted to let Hesperia know how great these fundraisers are. One thing is for sure: support your schools for fundraisers because it is for the kids and to help with their programs.

This month, you might say I am "out and about" enjoying all the events Hesperia has to offer. Don't forget the anniversary celebration coming up for Hesperia in September, "Hesperia Days," and our wonderful parade for every age to enjoy and so much more! And our new underpass will be opening on Saturday!

I hope you enjoyed a glimpse into what there is out there and I hope I see you at some of the upcoming events.

See you next month!

Love, Charlene
