With big box stores and other retail locations gearing up for the holiday shopping season, a local library group said consumers may find what they're looking for and for low prices.

The Hesperia Friends of the Library group will hold its regular "Last Saturday of the Month Sale" from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Hesperia Branch Library.

"This is a great opportunity to purchase used hardback and paperback books, CDs, VHS tapes, DVDs and specially priced gift books at half price," group secretary Ann Marie Wentworth said in a news release. "You may find treasures for your shelves and gifts for your friends and family."

The Saturday book sale is held in the main entryway of the library and in the nearby Friends Bookstore to the left of the entrance.

The Friends of the Library group also offers a special half-price discount to seniors 55 and older in the Friends Bookstore every Wednesday during regular library hours, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Seniors can purchase used hardbacks, trade paperbacks, VHS tapes and CDs for 50 cents each, mass market paperbacks for 10 cents each and specially priced books at half off the labeled price.

All purchases through the Friends Bookstore support the activities of the library, including new book purchases, magazine and newspaper subscriptions, audiobooks, DVDs, public computers and special library programs for every age from preschool to adult.

The Hesperia Branch Library is located at 9650 Seventh Ave. next to Hesperia Civic Center. Regular library hours at 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
