Hesperia residents will begin receiving their economic stimulus payments perhaps as early as later this week, according to the Internal Revenue Service.

The IRS will begin sending more than 130 million payments to U.S. taxpayers within days with the initial round of weekly payments to be completed by early July.

Those who chose to receive their 2007 income tax refunds through direct deposit will also receive their economic stimulus payment via direct deposit. Others will receive a paper check in the U.S. Postal Service mail.

The payments will be sent out in the order of the last two digits of the Social Security number used on the tax return. On a joint return, the first Social Security number listed will determine mail-out time.

About 34 million payments -- about 25 percent of the total -- are expected to be made within the first three weeks, according to the IRS.

Those who expect to receive their payment by direct deposit should receive them between May 2 and May 16. Paper checks will mailed out starting on May 16.

Also, the IRS has provided an on-line calculator on IRS.gov to help taxpayers determine eligibility and amount.
