Hesperia's next grocery store will open its doors in a few short weeks.

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market, located at Main Street and Topaz Avenue, will open for business at 10 a.m. on August 6.

As part of the store's grand opening celebration, Fresh & Easy will present a $1,000 check to a local charity, as nominated by community members via its Web site, FreshAndEasy.com. All nominations must be submitted by July 16.

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets are a division of the British retail giant Tesco. The largest retailer in Britain, Tesco is the third-largest retailer in the world.

Fresh & Easy groceries are set up differently than the five Hesperia already boasts (and Target and Wal-Mart groceries on their way). The Main and Topaz location will occupy 13,900 feet, just over half the size of the city's Stater Brothers grocery stores.

Inside, the layout differs from the traditional American supermarket. About 45 percent of the products on store shelves are the Fresh & Easy store brand, featuring no artificial flavors and colors, no trans-fats and few preservatives unless absolutely necessary.

Fresh & Easy won't be the new kid in town for too long, though: The High Desert Gateway Shopping Center at Main Street and I-15, anchored by a Super Target, complete with a grocery store section, is set to open October 12.
