Ethan Hamilton, the son of former longtime Hesperia Unified School District board member Jack Hamilton, recently was named head coach of the Point Loma Nazarene University basketball team.

Hamilton previously was the team's associate head coach for three years. The Sea Lions posted a 61-33 overall record during that time, appeared in three conference tournaments and qualified for NAIA national tournament in 2008.

"I am very excited for the opportunity to lead the PLNU men's basketball team and continue building on the sucess that has been rekindled these past few seasons," Hamilton said.

"I am extremely appreciative to the university administration for showing the confidence in me to direct this program. I am also especially grateful to [former head coach] Art Wilmore for humbly allowing and entrusting me to have such a vital role in his program these three years."

PLNU Athletics Director Carroll land also announced Wilmore would become the school's assistant athletic director.
A graduate of PLNU, Hamilton has extensive coaching experience.

Prior to returning to his alma mater, he spent two years as an assistant coach at the University of California Riverside and five years at Azusa Pacific University. Aside from coaching responsibilities, Hamilton acted as program administrator, recruiting coordinator and assisted with fund-raising at all three universities. Hamilton will also remain in the position of associate athletic director at PLNU.
