The future students of Oak Hills High School are now deciding whom they'll be rooting for when the school's sports teams take the field for the first time next school year.

Principal Larry Porras held a meeting last Friday at Cedar Middle School to bring members of the future Oak Hills High School community up to speed on the school's construction and get their input on mascot choices and colors.

"After getting all the input -- about 3 1/2 pages of input from the [Hesperia Unified School District] Web site -- and we had the public forum here in the gym last Friday, we put together the top three choices for mascots and colors," Porras said Tuesday.

Now the choice is in the hands of the future members of the Oak Hills classes of 2012 and 2013. Porras is visiting Cedar Middle classrooms and surveying the students individually.

They have three choices of mascots: bulldogs, titans or the wolf pack. And there are three choices for sets of colors: red, white and black; steel blue, white and black; or maroon, white and black.

"My goal is a thousand [votes]," Porras said. "We're almost halfway there."

Survey results will be known later this month.

"I'm happy with the process we've followed. We've gotten input from tons of parents. I feel good about the survey that went out."

Oak Hills High School is set to open for 9th, 10th and 11th graders in August 2009.
