One night in March of 2007 local firefighters were called to extinguish a vehicle fire. After putting out the flames, they discovered the badly burned body of 37-year-old Alberto Cervantes of Hesperia.

Last week - after a seven-week trial - two juries found Harold Wesley Meeks, 28, and Virgil Wilkins, 24, both of Hesperia, guilty of murdering Cervantes.

According to news reports, Meeks and Wilkins lured Cervantes to an isolation desert location, and then beat and kidnapped him. They took him to Hesperia Road and Sante Fe Avenue and set his body on fire in his pickup truck.

Wilkins was found guilty of murder and arson. Meeks was found guilty of first-degree murder. Both men could face life in prison.
