December's snowstorm may have been beautiful while it lasted, but it also caused its share of problems, including for residents of the Joshua Mobile Home Park.

The G Avenue 40-unit mobile home park is home to senior citizens, many of them on fixed incomes. And the heavy snowfall that occurred on December 17 and 18 was more than some of their homes could take. The front porch awnings of five of the units collapsed under the weight of the snow.

"A couple of people have trouble getting in and out, but they're still able to use their homes," said resident John McClanahan.

Two of the mobile homes were unoccupied at the time of the collapse, according to McClanahan, who worked at the Main Street AutoZone prior to his retirement.

"They're just going to have to take [the awnings] down, and if they can afford it, they'll put them back up," he said. "But not many can. Most people can't. We're on fixed incomes; we're old folks."
