There was lots of reasons to celebrate.

Earlier in the week Canyon Ridge High School won its first-ever sports event, a soccer game versus Chaparral of the Snowline Unified School District. Several Canyon Ridge students also won a recent district-wide essay competition.

But the official reason for the Friday, Jan. 31 barbecue feast was the school's successful food and clothing drive. Altogether, according to Principal Bill Pittsford, students donated 100 jackets and numerous boxes of food.

"We have 28 more boxes," he added.

The donations were made to the High Desert Homeless Services, a non-profit agency that provides services to local homeless people.

Besides enjoying the good eats, members of the winning soccer team washed teachers' cars, a fund-raising activity which would continue over the next weekend.
