Hesperia residents will be paying a bit more to get their trash hauled away later this spring.

The Hesperia City Council voted unanimously at their Tuesday night meeting to raise the fees charged by Advance Disposal, the company that has the trash collection contract for the city, by a total of $1.03.

The council actually approved two fee hikes. The first is a 3.5 percent cost of living adjustment increase for Advance Disposal, which comes out to 82 cents for the average resident. The second is a second tipping (dumping) fee by the County of San Bernardino, which is being passed along directly to customers, and works out to another 21 cents per household.

The maximum regular residential monthly rate rises from $23.30 to $24.33.

The new rates go into effect on May 1.

The next meeting of the Hesperia City Council will take place on April 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Hesperia City Hall, 9700 Seventh Avenue.
