I had the most interesting experience watching a spectacular three-ring circus in the form of a Hesperia Unified School District Board Meeting on November 2, 2009. During the meeting, I along with everyone else in attendance, observed Kirk and Black vote repeatedly to censor Chris Bentley in his effort to bring up important issues for public debate and awareness. Many people who had given up time with their families to attend the meeting shook their heads in disbelief and left the meeting early because of the board's embarrassing antics.

It has been suggested that if Rob Kirk and Hardy Black were teenagers they would have had their car keys and cell phones confiscated due to their manipulative behavior. If they had been young children, they would have been taken to the woodshed for a good old-fashion "WHOOPIN!" and sent to bed without dinner. I currently have fifth graders who behave more responsibly than they do.

I was also intrigued with the comments made by Rob Kirk when he spoke of how many kids outside our district were attending Krystal and Cypress Elementary. I would like to know how many students have been siphoned off from other schools in our district.

Although I have a high regard for the staff at both sites, I firmly believe choice schools have caused a brain drain and white flight in our district. It is also quite possible that choice schools have created Program Improvement Schools because of the transfers taking place. Have we become a school district of haves and have nots? Perhaps these issues could be placed on the next management meeting agenda.

In the near future the citizens of Hesperia have the opportunity to elect a different school board. Do not give Kirk and Black four more years to destroy our district. Please save our district, and most importantly, save our kids.
