Already the home of free family movies each summer, Hesperia Civic Plaza park will host a six-date concert series for the first time beginning in June.

"We have some current country, some oldies country, some Top 40, (The) Animals-, Doors-type (classic rock)," Don Webb, recreation supervisor for the Hesperia Recreation and Park District, said. "Nobody can beat family entertainment like these guys do. It's how they're wired."

The concerts will take place on Fridays and Saturdays in June, July and August at the park adjacent to the library and city hall, where the district already holds its free family movie series on Saturday nights throughout the summer.

"It'll be the old-fashioned kind of concert, where couples are dancing in the aisles," he said. Multiple "generations will enjoy this stuff."

About 37 bands applied to be part of the concert series, and Webb said he got the best of the best as a result.

"My big score was the Mike Sullivan Band," said Webb. Sullivan, a singer-songwriter, is currently a finalist to get on at least one reality show singing competition, he said. "The kid is just good. ... I think we're really lucky to get him."

In addition to the musicians, there will be vendors selling food and drink at the park.

Concerts are free and will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Hesperia Civic Plaza Park, 15833 Smoke Tree St. For more information on the concerts in the park series, visit HesperiaParks.com or call (760) 244-5488.
