  • Unique gifts and colorful garden art pieces are just a few of the things one will find at Kreative Klutter, located at 11938 Hesperia Road. In February, owner Debbie Ragains moved the store from The Village shopping area in Apple Valley to its new spot just south of Bear Valley Road, next to Harbor Freight Tools. She says she now has 2,500 square feet of space filled with some of the most unique items that aren’t likely to be found anywhere else in the area.
“To my knowledge, nobody here in the High Desert carries the variety of things that I do,” said Ragains, a formal postal carrier. “I have all kinds of gifts for everybody from your aunt and uncle to your son and brother. I even started bringing in things for nurses and caregivers, which you normally wouldn’t find at your local Wal-Mart or Target.”
Ragains says that along with stocking a large inventory of Tole painting supplies for decorative painting on tin, wooden utensils and furniture, Kreative Klutter also carries a number of popular collectible lines. They include Boyd’s Bears, Charming Tales and My Little Kitchen Fairies. Additionally, the shop sells Jim Shore collectibles, which Ragains says is one of the hottest lines among collectors.
“At the moment, I have some older Jim Shore pieces on sale at half price,” said Ragains. “We also have a selection of My Little Kitchen Fairies for 30 percent off, as well as some older designs of WoodWick candles for 35 percentoff.  I always try to have a variety of discounted items.”
When Ragains opened Kreative Klutter in 2007, her inventory was limited to Tole painting supplies and a few gifts. She says she owes her expansion mostly to word of mouth from loyal customers.
“When I started, it was truly on a wing and a prayer,” said Ragains. “I had never owned my own store but I was always into Tole painting so I thought I would give it a try. When I think about being in business for seven years already, I feel very blessed. Many stores in the area did not survive the recession, but Kreative Klutter has continued to grow.”
Beyond gift and Tole painting supplies, Kreative Klutter also offers a variety of craft and Tole painting classes.
“We hold Tole painting classes during the week and on Saturdays,” said Ragains. “We also have classes for other types of craft items. On the third Wednesday of every month we have an ornament and pin class, which usually draws about 25 people. It’s one of our most popular.”
According to Ragains, the cost for an eight-hour class is $35. Half-day classes are $20 and a block of four classes is $65. She said supplies are included.
During the holidays, Ragains says she goes all out to make sure her customers have access to many of the latest and greatest ornaments and décor. Variety, she says, will always be at the heart of her thriving business.
“I put up five Christmas trees last year that were fully decorated with a specific theme,” Ragains said. “And I brought in all kinds of interesting and unique gift items, which my customers really appreciated. I’m very thankful we can offer the amount of things that we do and it feels really good to know that people keep coming back once they find out about us.”
Kreative Klutter is open 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and closed on Sunday and Monday.
