  • SACRAMENTO — Board of Equalization member George Runner announced that a new law will take effect on Tuesday that will allow manufacturers to receive a partial exemption of sales and use tax on certain purchases.
Runner will host a telephone town hall meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday for California’s manufacturers to provide information on the new tax exemption.
“The manufacturing sector employs more than 1 million Californians and adds more than $200 billion to our economy every year,” said Runner in a written statement. “My goal is to help manufacturers understand California’s complicated tax laws and ensure they are aware of the valuable new tax incentive available to them.”
The free event, co-hosted by the California Manufacturers and Technology Association, will also discuss other tax issues specific to the manufacturing industry.
Employers who would like to participate in the telephone town hall meeting are asked to register online at boe.ca.gov/townhall or by calling 916-445-3032.
Individuals who preregister will receive a telephone call at the start of the event inviting them to connect to the meeting. During the event, callers will have an opportunity to ask questions, Runner said.
For more information on the manufacturing tax exemption, including which purchases qualify and how much tax is exempt, visit the board’s Manufacturing Exemption webpage at boe.ca.gov/sutax/manufacturing_exemptions.
