  • HESPERIA — The city earned a prestigious financial reporting award for the 11th year running, the City Council announced Tuesday.
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting was awarded to the city’s Finance Division by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada on June 23.
The award recognizes high standards of municipal financial reporting that also demonstrates a “spirit of full disclosure,” the association said.
Mayor Pro Tem Eric Schmidt, who chaired the Tuesday council meeting in Mayor Thurston “Smitty” Smith’s vacation absence, commended Assistant City Manager Brian Johnson and his staff for their proficiency and consistency.
The Finance Division’s annual report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2013 was rated “proficient” in all 17 grading categories.
