  • HESPERIA — A 5-year-old Hesperia boy known as “Timo” to friends and family died early Friday morning after fighting Stage 4 neuroblastoma for the past two years.
Timothy Davis, 5, and his mother, Timmie Dinger, were staying at one of Dingers’ children’s apartments in Victorville where Timothy was receiving hospice care. Dinger said the hospital sent Timothy home in September 2013 and he had been in hospice care ever since.
“He got better for a little while, but then he just got worse and they just sent us home,” Dinger said.
A December 2012 Daily Press article reported Timothy was diagnosed with the brain cancer in December 2011 and had undergone chemotherapy, radiation and an unsuccessful bone marrow transplant.
“All that treatment and they sent him home with no hope,” family friend Rick Gerg said in a January 2014 Daily Press article. “But I’m not giving up on him.”
By January 2014, the Daily Press reported the boy had undergone 12 rounds of chemotherapy and been in hospice care. The January article reported Timothy had been given six months to live, and was down to one month.
Numerous local organizations banded together to give the boy his final wishes. Mojave Narrows Regional Park and an anonymous donor gave the boy and his mother a camping trip at the park free of charge in October 2013. The organization High Desert Angels helped coordinate a trip for donors to take Timothy and his mother, Timmie Dinger, to Disneyland in early 2014.
“He just got sicker and sicker,” High Desert Angels member Matt Griffin said. “About two weeks ago my wife went and visited him and he was getting really, really sick.”
Timothy died at the apartment the family was staying at on Friday just after 4 a.m. The family has a gofundme page to help pay for medical and funeral expenses. To donate, visit www.gofundme.com/timothys-battle.
