  • HESPERIA — Authorities say a man with a no-bail warrant fled the scene of a three-car crash and then robbed a T-shirt store in attempt to disguise himself before he was caught and arrested Thursday afternoon.
The crash occurred at Bear Valley Road and Balsam Avenue at about 1:45 p.m. San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies at the scene said Matthew Abplanalp, 44, was driving a Chevy pickup truck east on Bear Valley Road in the middle lane when he swerved into the left-turn lane to avoid being hit by another vehicle that cut him off.
Officials said Abplanalp rear-ended a Ford Ranger and went over the center divider. After crossing the divider, he was hit head-on by a red sedan driving west on Bear Valley Road. Abplanalp fled the scene and ran into a nearby T-shirt shop, where he stole a shirt to try to disguise himself, deputies said.
Authorities said he was found hiding in the bushes and was taken into custody; he will be booked into jail on suspicion of hit-and-run. Sheriff’s officials said Abplanalp’s warrant was a theft warrant out of Monrovia in Los Angeles County.
The two occupants of the red sedan had to be cut out of the vehicle. They were transported with minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Two lanes of westbound Bear Valley Road were blocked, as well as the left-turn lane of eastbound Bear Valley Road.
