  • HESPERIA — After the success of his first Jersey Mike’s Subs shop in the High Desert, franchise owner Adam Shamel is ready to open his second location.
“We chose Hesperia because we got a great deal on the building,” Shamel said. “Sometimes real estate dictates the market. We actually have five stores planned for the area.”
Shamel, who opened his first store in February in the Jess Ranch Marketplace in Apple Valley, said the new sandwich shop will be located on Main Street, between Mountain Vista and Escondido avenues.
“If all goes well, we plan on opening in September,” said Shamel, who lives in Corona. “It’s a 1,300-square-foot building and conveniently located near the freeway.”
Shamel said he was attracted to the Jersey Mike’s brand because it offers a business model and level of customer service that he can really stand behind.
“After I graduated from business school, I came across a Jersey Mike’s that opened near my house,” Shamel said. “After they opened a store near my work, we ate there at least once a week and that’s when I knew I had to open my own place.”
During the Apple Valley opening, Shamel’s shop handed out 10,000 coupons good for a free regular sub with a minimum $1 donation. Funds raised by the sub shop went to the Apple Valley Police Activities League.
Since 2010, the chain has raised more than $7.5 million for local charities and has given away more than 600,000 sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.
Started in 1956, Jersey Mike’s now has 1,300 restaurants open and under development nationwide.
The new Jersey Mike's Subs will be located at 13255 Main St. Visit iwww.jerseymikes.com for more information.
