    Aug. 9
    Equestrian Trails Inc., Corral 103’s Johnnie Miller Ride from Imperial 2 Ranch, Santa Fe Road and Agate Road, Summit Valley, starts with sign-ups at 3:30 p.m. and ride out at 4:30 p.m. It will be a two-hour “ride the loop” followed by hot dogs and a pool party afterward.     A roping and raffle benefit for the Britzman family of Phelan is planned at Flying S Ranch, 9248 Juniper St. in Apple Valley. Sign up at 8 a.m., rope starting at 10 a.m. A food truck will be on site.
    Ropers will receive half the jackpot, with the remaining half plus all proceeds from the raffle will go to Jennifer and Kevin, whose daughter Rachelle passed away on June 30 while attending college in Missouri.
    Kevin and his younger son Brandon are roping students of Randy Stanley Sr., owner of Flying S Ranch.

    National Barrel Horse Association of California District 18’s race is at Shay Meadow Ranch, 1635 Shay Road in Big Bear City. All fees are cash only and signups start at 10 a.m., when time-only runs begin.
    Leadline — walk-trot — is free to members and starts at 1135 a.m. 4D starts at noon.
    Open 4D is $35 per horse and rider, youth, senior and novice, $25 per horse rider. District and state fee is $5 per horse, insurance is $5 per rider and time-only fee is $5 per run. A one-day permit for nonNBHA members is $10 per person.
    Arena sponsors are Village Pizza and Carlson Custom Homes.
    NBHA members must provide their membership number. The NBHA CA 18 2014 Season will be the second Sunday January through September and the third Sunday of October and November.     “Meet Rowdy and Gasston” at a fundraiser barbecue from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mea Ola’s Place in Baldy Mesa. Children are welcome, and Ann and her gang are working on additional items for sale.
    There’s a silent auction planned, too, so if you have items to donate, let Ann know. Text her at 661-557-2680 for shipping instructions if you cannot drop the items off yourself.
    Work never stops at the Rescue, and if you’d like to help, donations for hay, bagged feed, straw and shavings can be made to J and K Feed, 16361 Yucca St. in Hesperia. Their phone number is 760-244-6312.

    Aug. 4 is the deadline to get the early-bird price for the third annual William A. Betterley Western Heritage Foundation trail ride and dinner to benefit Change of Heart, Paisley Mae Arnold at Historic Rancho Las Flores in Summit Valley. Anyone who knew Bill is invited to come share stories about him. A silent auction and raffle will take place as well.

    At the benefit, gates open at 1 p.m., ride out at 3 p.m. It’s an easy to moderate ride with shod horses recommended.
    Dinner is at 6:30 p.m. with entertainment by Highview Riders Band. No overnight camping. Pre-register for $30 per person. Starting Aug. 5, tickets will be $40 per person.     Dusty Spurs starts the new season with a night barrels show at Triple E Arena, 10164 White Road in Phelan. Sign up at 2:30 p.m., ride at 4 p.m. Events are barrels, poles II, big T, speed barrels, single stake and speed ball. Fun activities include a raffle and 50/50 drawing.
