  • VICTORVILLE — Two men have pleaded not guilty to burglary charges and a transient woman is awaiting trial after San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials said the three were arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary over the weekend.
Sheriff’s officials said deputies discovered them trying to steal appliances and metal from a vacant house on Saturday night in the 15800 block of Desert Poppy Lane.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Ken Lutz said Matthew Lara, 35, of Victorville and Mario Lopez, 35, of San Bernardino, were arrested Saturday along with and Brandi Gilbert, 36, listed in arrest logs as a Victorville-area transient. Witnesses said they saw the three attempting to steal a $2,000 air-conditioning unit from a vacant home.
According to Lutz, deputies arrived at the location and arrested the trio. Upon investigation, Sheriff’s deputies discovered two more A/C units with their copper wiring stripped as well as a dishwasher in the garage, a refrigerator that had been unplugged and moved, and fixtures and faucets that had been loosened.
“The home had not been rented or sold and was vacant,” Lutz said. “The home had been red-tagged (as being not livable) as a warning, but I guess these guys were using it to steal the appliances.”
Lara and Lopez are behind bars at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto on $25,000 bail.
Gilbert is being held at the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center in San Bernardino on $25,000 bail.
