  • VICTORVILLE — A man who was involved in a dispute with his girlfriend and was arrested after allegedly cutting her with a kitchen knife is scheduled to be arraigned on an assault with a deadly weapon charge Tuesday.
Lonnie Cornick, 25, of Victorville was arrested on Saturday afternoon after San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies received a call of a disturbance in an apartment in the 15400 block of Culebra Road.
Upon arrival, around 2 p.m., deputies found that Cornick and the victim were living together and have one child. The two got into an argument when Cornick grabbed a kitchen knife and cut the victim twice on her left hand before cutting the straps off of the backpack she was wearing.
“When deputies showed up, they found the kid on the stairs saying, ‘911, 911, he’s cutting my mommy’s back,’ ” Sheriff’s Sgt. Ken Lutz said. “The initial call was for a child being hurt, but it turned out it was the female.”
The victim’s injuries were minor and she was not transported for medical aid.
Cornick was arrested for suspected assault with a deadly weapon and is being held at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto on $50,000 bail.
