  • VICTORVILLE — Two women have pleaded not guilty to charges they assaulted a senior citizen during an argument reportedly over who had pulled up first to a gas station pump.
Brittany Johnson, 24, and Leticia Aguilar, 26, are scheduled to return to court Sept. 4 after they pleaded not guilty Tuesday to assault and elder abuse charges, court records show.
In addition, Johnson is charged with robbery and attempted robbery, which she also denied.
On Aug. 22, the women allegedly attacked Danny Froschauer, 65, in front of his great-grandson and witnesses at an ARCO gas station on Nisqualli and Hesperia roads, authorities said.
One of the witnesses purportedly caught the confrontation on camera.
Froschauer pulled up to a gas pump before the women; the women then attempted to use the pump and punched Froschauer in the face, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Watch Commander Paul Solorio confirmed to the Daily Press.
One woman took Froschauer’s keys and another attempted to steal the phone of a witness filming the incident as it unfolded, Solorio said.
“I don’t even know why they got violent,” Froschauer told NBC Los Angeles. “I didn’t get snotty with them. I just told them, ‘No, I was at this pump.’ (They said,) ‘No, we was first.’ ”
A third suspect, Tatiana Finney, 23, has also been charged with assault and elder abuse, but she had not been arraigned nor was she in custody as of Thursday.
The altercation occurred at about 1 p.m. and sheriff’s officials were on the scene soon afterward.
Johnson and Aguilar were in custody at West Valley Detention Center on Thursday in lieu of $75,000 bail, jail records show.
