  • 1)Ezequiel Pena: One of the leading Mexican banda and mariachi performers, Pena is a Latin Grammy nominee who gained international recognition in the 1990s for his ability to play La Charreria, which celebrates the tradition of the Mexican cowboy.

    2)Los Angeles County Fair: The fair begins its month-long run on Friday at Fairplex in Pomona.
    Entertainment includes pop singer Zendaya on Friday night, the Flip Fest Monster Truck and Motocross Stunt Spectacular on Saturday and R&B singer Charlie Wilson on Sunday. Admission to the fair is free when concert tickets are purchased.

    When: 3 p.m. to midnight Friday; 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday and Sunday; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday.

    3)Charlie Wilson/fireworks: Uncle Charlie, the former lead singer for The Gap Band, brings his style of R&B to Buffalo Bill’s Star of the Desert Arena in Primm, Nev., on Saturday. The seven-time Grammy nominee was named Billboard’s No. 1 adult R&B artist in 2009. On Sunday, Primm Valley Casino Resorts celebrates Labor Day with a free fireworks show starting at dusk.

    4)Ice Cream Safari: The Friends of the Big Bear Alpine Zoo hold their annual Ice Cream Safari.
    There will be five ice cream stations located throughout the zoo, each offering a different flavor.
    Where: Big Bear Alpine Zoo, 43285 Goldmine Drive, Big Bear Lake.
    When: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until ice cream runs out Saturday.
    Cost: $5 for safari, plus $12 for adults, $6 for children 3-10 and seniors 60 and older. Free for children 2 and younger.

    5)Desert Discovery Center: This 7,000-square-foot facility features the Old Woman Meteorite, which at 6,070 pounds is the second largest meteorite found in the United States. There is a native plant and animal habitat in the secret garden and pond area, where visitors can enjoy the peaceful environment and view the tortoises. There are also displays of art and sculptures.
