  • VICTORVILLE — The 32-year-old male driver of a silver Honda Civic died Monday evening of injuries he sustained after colliding with the back of another vehicle while driving at high speeds, officials said.
Several witnesses reported that the Honda was being driven “recklessly” and speeding eastbound on Bear Valley Road before it struck a 2008 silver Saturn Vue also traveling eastbound in the intersection at 2nd Avenue, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Doug Hubbard said.
Hubbard said the Honda rear-ended the Saturn at close to 90 mph. Both vehicles were carried through the intersection and came to a stop about 30 to 40 feet east of the traffic light. Both people in the Saturn, a 68-year-old female driver and 48-year-old female passenger from Apple Valley, were transported to nearby Desert Valley Hospital with complaints of pain. Hubbard said they were treated and released.
The driver of the Honda was also treated at Desert Valley Hospital but died there. The collision occurred at about 4 p.m. on Monday. The crash caused the intersection to be closed for more than 3 hours while sheriff’s deputies conducted their investigation using a Faro device, which includes laser and GPS technology. Eastbound traffic was diverted at 3rd Avenue and westbound traffic was rerouted at Hesperia Road.
Hubbard said it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision but toxicology tests would be conducted on all people involved.
The Hesperia Station Major Accident Investigation Team responded and was conducting the investigation.
