The California State Parks Foundation needs volunteers to help care for state parks across the state this fall and beyond through its volunteer program Park Champions.

Volunteers are particularly needed at Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Park Champions projects include trail repair, invasive plant removal, habitat restoration, fence construction, bridge construction, and re-painting park structures.

Free camping is available Friday through Sunday nights for registered volunteers. Potable water, restrooms and showers are available. RVs are OK but there are no hookups.

Kids 12 and older are welcome with a legal guardian.

The Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area is at 14615 Cedar Circle in Hesperia. Those who are interested in volunteering should register in advance at www.calparks.org/volunteer.
