When High Desert resident/restaurant owner Sarafina Pizzo migrated to the U.S. from Palermo, Italy in 1967, she brought along her culinary talents for making some of the finest Italian food one will ever taste. Her passion for cooking led her to opening her first eatery in Chino Hills in 1970, which she said to proved to be a highly successful venture.

In 2004, Pizzo relocated to the Victor Valley and opened Giuseppe’s Italian Restaurant in Dunia Plaza, 14309 Bear Valley Road in Victorville. Over the years, the establishment has attracted a loyal base of customers, who Pizzo said love the restaurant’s friendly atmosphere and authentic-tasting food.

In fact, business boomed to the point where Pizzo decided it was time to open a second High Desert location at 15555 Main St. in Hesperia. Although the new restaurant officially opened for business in December 2014, she recently celebrated with an official grand opening on Aug. 8.

Pizzo said it was well attended by the public and Hesperia city officials, including Hesperia Mayor Bill Holland.

“This is the first time I had a ribbon cutting ceremony for any of my restaurants, so it was really wonderful to be welcomed into the community in that manner,” said Pizzo, whose recipes have been handed down for generations through her ancestors. “It’s also such a good feeling to know that people are supporting me and love the food I serve.”

According to Pizzo, her Hesperia restaurant is over 6,000 square feet, including a large banquet room that holds up to 200 people. She said she has catered many local events over the years and is thrilled to be able to rent out her banquet room to locals for weddings, parties and other types of private events.

“I really did outgrow the space in Victorville,” said Pizzo. “So it’s great to have two locations now in order to accommodate all of my customers’ needs.”

Along with homemade pizzas, Giuseppe’s serves up a variety of entrees, including Italian favorites like manicotti, lasagna, ravioli, chicken parmesan and tortellini, to name few. It also offers sandwiches, calzones, antipasto salads and a variety of appetizers and desserts.

Dinner prices range from around $8 to $13 and a large two-topping pizza costs about $16. The eatery also offers a $10.99 pasta special, which includes a half-portion of spaghetti, a half-portion of ravioli, soup, salad and garlic bread.

Seniors and children can order select meals for around $5.

“My sauce is superb,” said Pizzo. “If you have a great sauce, everything will taste amazing. This is why once people eat at my restaurants, they are hooked for life.”

Giuseppe’s Hesperia and Victorville locations are open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For more information, visit www.giuseppesvictorville.com
