Since 1948, the City of Hesperia has been keeping its annual Hesperia Days afloat with family-friendly activities, such as a colorful parade and this year's 5k Run/Skate/Walk/Pokéwalk.

The two-day event will take place this year on Saturday and Sunday, kicking off with the 5K Run/Skate/Walk/Pokéwalk commencing at Percy Bakker Center, 9333 E Ave. The parade will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday and travel from Main Street and I Avenue to E Avenue.

According to Brad Letner, president and CEO of the Hesperia Chamber of Commerce, the theme of this year’s parade is “See Your Future, Create Your Future.” The grand marshal will be Hesperia resident George Beardsley, a member of Hesperia’s first City Council.

“We want to impress on our citizens and business owners to keep their eyes on the future,” said Letner. “It’s all about long-term visioning, especially where the growth of Hesperia is concerned.

“This is why George is such a great fit for our grand marshal. He is always building something in order to leave behind a legacy.”

After the parade, Hesperia Days will continue at Hesperia Lake Park from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Patrons will have the opportunity to enjoy shopping at local vendor booths, a kids’ fun zone and live entertainment sponsored by the American Music Festival.

The event is set to conclude with a fireworks display at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

“It takes a village to put this on,” said Letner. “We could not possibly do this without our sponsors and volunteer helpers.”

Along with the vendors and entertainment, Hesperia Days will feature its annual Great Duck Race scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hesperia Lake Park. The race is presented by Victor Valley Community Services Council and proceeds from donations support free programs for High Desert seniors.

The duck race is set up where rubber ducks go into the stream and head toward the finish line. The first to cross the finish line will win $1,000. Ten lucky ducks can win $25 for resting in designated places along the way. The last duck will win $250.
