Sept. 24, 2010
In the Sept. 21, 2010 edition of the Hesperia Star, it was incorrectly stated that Hesperia Unified school board candidate Rusty Caldwell did not submit a candidate’s statement in time for publication. As HesperiaStar.com readers already know, Caldwell did submit a statement, which is reprinted below:
“As a Board member for Hesperia Unified School District, my main objective would be to act as a representative for the students of our district, ensuring that they are put first. If we ‘as a board’ are ‘united’ and ‘create common goals as a board,’ we will be able to lead our students to their futures.
“I have been a resident of Hesperia since 1978, and a graduate of Hesperia High School.
“I have 4 kids, three of which are still in our school district, one in High School, One in Jr. High, one in Elementary and a fourth that is starting her 2nd year of college. I volunteer my time to the community whenever possible, serving on the board of directors for Little League, coaching baseball and soccer and helping out at all my kids schools when help is needed.
“I am a concerned parent who is willing to give up time at home to help improve our district.
“There will be many issues that our board will be faced with over the next four years.
“Our main focus needs to be on class size, quality of education and keeping all of our after school programs in place and even adding or improving them where needed. These programs retain students and motivate them; we cant take away programs that keep our kids in school.
“On November 2nd if you would like someone with a vested interest on your school board, someone who will represent all of the students in our district, vote for me, Rusty Caldwell.”
