Airport, park district host special district dinner

Hello, Hesperia! A very special evening was enjoyed by all who attended the Association of the San Bernardino County Special District meeting and dinner. Hosted by the Hesperia Recreation and Park District, it was held Jan. 27 at the Hesperia Airport. Being a guest, I thought the food was fantastic — and great service.

The guest speaker was our Chief of Police, Captain Nils Bentsen of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Hesperia station. Bentsen has been married 28 years and has four children. He has been chief of police for a year and a half in Hesperia. The audience learned a lot about our police activities. He also took questions from the audience and graciously answered all of them.

You may be wondering about our “special districts.” Simply put, special districts are the governmental expression of American’s inherent can-do spirit. They are created by citizens and governments to meet common local needs. The services that are provided include water, sewer, trash collection, electricity, fire protection, park maintenance and others — all synonymous with a higher quality of life. It’s no accident that special districts have been called one of the most efficient forms of government.
