Deputies go Dumpster diving for alleged burglar
Tuesday night was trash night in much of Hesperia, but a Dumpster on Jenkins Avenue was missing one item when the Advanced Disposal trucks drove up on Wednesday morning: an accused burglar.
Ramiro Albert Merced, 20, of Yucca Valley, had been pulled out of the Dumpster Tuesday afternoon on the 7200 block of Jenkins Avenue by a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department deputy.
A witness had called the department shortly before 4 p.m. on Tuesday after spotting a man entering a neighbor's house through a window. Before a deputy could respond, the witness then allegedly saw a man fleeing the residence on foot, jumping over a nearby wall and running southbound on Kenyon Avenue.
Deputies searched the area and discovered Merced hiding in the Dumpster. He was arrested and booked at Victor Valley Jail on a burglary charge. All the allegedly stolen property was recovered and returned to the property owner.
Another suspect, who had been seen driving around the neighborhood, is still at large.
Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call the Hesperia sheriff's station at 947-1500 or the anonymous WE-TIP line at (800) 782-7463.
