Dismembered body burned in Hesperia
Likely dumped in Hesperia neighborhood, officials say
HESPERIA • A dismembered and partially burned body was found Sunday morning in a Hesperia neighborhood and investigators are searching for clues.
Mauna Loa Street was blocked off completely for hours between Eighth and Seventh avenues, as a Scientific Investigations Division truck, fire trucks and officials with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Hesperia station surrounded the scene.
Hesperia deputies initially responded to a report of a fire on the side of the road at 6:37 a.m. Fire personnel arrived and extinguished the blaze only to determine that it was a human body.
Sgt. John Gaffney said the male, who hasn’t yet been identified, was likely killed somewhere else and the body was dumped in the vacant lot by the roadside. It wasn’t known where the original crime scene was as of 1 p.m.
The body was removed around 4:30 p.m. by the county coroner.
