Out and About with Charlene: For the love of a pet
Hello, Hesperia! What a treat I have for you. I had the privilege of interviewing Dr. Bill Connelly at the Hesperia Veterinarian Services. I asked some questions that maybe you will find interesting.
Why do dogs wag their tails?
His answer was what I have always thought: “Most generally, dogs are happy animals. They are very optimistic. All dogs centered from wolves in a 10,000-year period. Now, we have such a large variety of dogs with hundreds of breeds. I see many dogs and if I see 500 in a week, there is always one or two that I would like to take home. They just have that certain personality.”
Do dogs resemble their owners?
“Yes,” he said. “It’s more common than not.”
Well, that’s something to think about.
Why do cats purr?
“That is easy,” Dr. Bill said. “They are happy, content and comfortable.” Some purr very softly and others can have a purr that you can hear close by and yet others have a purr you can hear from across the room. Cats are very independent and don’t bond as easy as dogs. But cat owners absolutely love their cats.”
I was able to go into Dr. Bill’s surgery and recovery room and I fell in love with a little dog that looked like a deer fawn. He was so cute!
Gary and I adopted a dog, Rex, seven months ago. He was 2 years old when we got him. What a joy he has brought into our home. His love is unconditional and he is so devoted to us. We’ve bought him lots of toys and his play time is every night at 7 p.m. We don’t know whose schedule we are on, his or ours.
To everyone, if you have dogs or cats please take care of them. We are all they have to make sure they keep healthy and are fed, watered and loved. That goes for any animal that we might have. I almost forgot, Dr. Bill said to get the book, “The Inside of a Dog.” He said everyone should read it.
Thank you, Dr. Bill, for the time you spent with me. And thanks to all of your workers too, it was a lot of fun. Dr. Bill is located by the Hesperia Animal Control at 11011 Sante Fe Ave. East, and his phone number is 760-244-3833.
See you all again soon!
