Fighting cancer with holiday lights
Relay for Life team raises funds by holiday helping
Hesperians looking for a helping hand with their holiday decorations this year can help make the season a bit brighter for those suffering from cancer.
“You can let us know where you want the Christmas tree lights hung and how you want them hung,” said Jessica Butler, the team leader for the Team Virginia Bells Relay for Life team.
Butler’s team is named after her great aunt, who died a year ago from colon cancer.
“It’s myself, a few of my close friends, and my family members,” she said of the team.
The team’s goal is to raise $8,000 for Relay for Life this year. They’re asking for $10 minimum donations in return for hanging lights.
“This money that we’re raising we’ll go to our team,” she said, “and ultimately to Relay for Life.”
Funds raised are spent on research and on improving the quality of life of cancer patients.
