A new beginning

Hello, Hesperia! Here we are, starting a brand new year. Last month I told you about getting a new grandchild, Isaac. Gary and I wanted to go to Missouri so much to see him and his big sister, Isabelle. With health issues for both of us we could not travel.

Seth has a phone that you can see each other when you call. My friends have that kind of phone and were so kind to call Seth for me. We were able to see the baby and the rest of the family. Come March, when my old contract is up, I’m getting a new phone like my son has. Then I’ll be able to see everyone in Missouri and Utah; so many of us have family far away. I just hope I can learn to use it!

This year I’ve realized more than ever how precious life is and all the choices we make. We must choose our choices carefully. How I love my friends I’ve made through the years. It still bothers me a lot when I see how cruel some people can be to each other. Life is too short and I’m disappointed when respect for each other is not there. Every one of us is different. We will never be able to please every person we come in contact with. We cannot take back hurtful words. Being a bully, no matter what age, is wrong.

Why am I writing this? I just felt it needed to be said. Let’s try to love each other as a child loves.

Living in Hesperia for 35 years, I’ve seen many changes. I loved when my family was home — going to school functions, sports, their friends coming over, learning to drive, the road shows at church and so much more. Then, each of them going to college, Seth the Army, getting married and then that wonderful miracle, grand babies! I’m amazed at the honesty and pure love of a little child.

A big thank you goes to our City of Hesperia council and staff, Sheriff’s station, fire department, recreation and parks. Keep taking good care of us! I have the utmost respect for you and all the other organizations of Hesperia. I love Hesperia.

Love, Charlene

P.S. To my grandchildren — Lacey, Dilan, Shaylee, Shyanne, Brock, Madyson, Isabelle and Isaac — how precious you are to me. Thanks to my kids for giving them to me. And thank you to Gary for all of this being possible. I love you all!
