Hello, Hesperia.

I've missed all of you these past months. I was asked to write about scholarship programs at our high schools; this year, I went to Sultana High School.

I want to thank Sultana counselor Kim Falahee for putting everything together for me. She's super and I had great time meeting six students for a picture and discussing scholarships. I would also like to extend my thanks to the students: Crystal Paez, Kristen Islas, Leslie Fermin, Alma Ramirez and Matthew Schmitt.

I have been very fortunate to attend some of the scholarship ceremonies at each school. I am on the foundation board of the Hesperia Area Recreation District which supports the Hesperia Recreation and Park District.

The foundation awards a $500 scholarship to each school for a deserving senior; the schools are Hesperia High School, Oak Hills High School, Sultana High School, Mojave High School and Hesperia Christian School. Our scholarship is in the memory and honor of Rick Novack. Mr. Novack was bigger than life and he thought so much of the students.

Some of the scholarships available are from the Hesperia Elks, California School Employees Association, Kiwanis Club of Hesperia, Wal-Mart, Don Ferrarese Charitable Foundation and more. There are also scholarships available from the U.S. Army, Marines Corps and Navy.

I hope this information helps with scholarship questions. Please call the school your student attends or have your student see their counselor for more information.

There are so many scholarships available. Good luck to all of you.

Love, Charlene.
