HESPERIA — Collision Auto Repair Specialists (C.A.R.S.) was named small business of the year in the 33rd Assembly District this week by Assemblyman Jay Obernolte.

On Monday, owner Carlos Sarmiento was honored in Sacramento during the California Small Business Association's annual event.

Open since October 2014, the Hesperia-based shop has been nominated and selected as the Daily Press' "Best of the Desert" for both 2016 and 2017.

"Carlos is an example of a local business owner who donates much time and effort to ensure that his community thrives," Obernolte said in a statement. "He has played a pivotal role in aiding community events like the Annual Veterans Holiday Tribute, which fundraises to support veterans in need in the community. I want to congratulate him on his successful business and his many achievements."

Boasting more than 25 years of industry experience, Sarmiento also founded a Give Back Program through his business, allowing a person involved in a car accident to donate a portion of their insurance deductible to a school or program of their choice and in their name.

Obernolte's Assembly District covers the High Desert, cities stretching toward the Nevada border like Needles and Baker and mountain communities such as Big Bear City, Big Bear Lake, Crestline and Lake Arrowhead.
