The Rotary Club of the High Desert has teamed up with Hesperia Recreation and Park District to host Dog Daze of Summer on Aug. 5 — a fun event for the entire community, including man’s best friend.

The event promises to be a good time for dog lovers who can search for a new dog during the even't pet adoption or just bring their canine companions to stroll around Hesperia Civic Plaza Park, where there will be various food, music, pet-related services and more on hand.

“Everyone who attends — whether as a vendor or as an attendee — will benefit from meeting other pet lovers as they share their love of their animals and learn about available services,” Hesperia Recreation and Park District General Manager Lindsay Woods said.

Vendors will display products and services that are available for dogs. Vendors will include pet stores and suppliers, animal shelters, animal rescues, pet groomers and more.

“Our residents recreate in a variety of ways and there is a segment of the population who recreate with their pets,” Woods said. “This event is a great opportunity for them to come together and meet other like-minded residents while promoting responsible pet ownership.”

There will be a DJ playing music throughout the event, along with pet contests conducted by the Rotary Club of the High Desert.

“It is interesting that Dog Daze will include music and contests. Not only will the dogs enjoy themselves, but so will the pet owners. Dog Daze is fun for everyone,” Hesperia Chamber of Commerce Administrative Assistant Maria Lopez said.

With dogs up for adoption, there will be pet meet and greets available for those who are looking to provide a “forever home” to a canine in need.

“Bringing people and their pets together is the most important aspect of this event. Another benefit is the many pet adoptions which occur during the event along with the promotion of responsible pet ownership,” Woods said.

Hesperia Recreation and Park District has held an annual dog event known as “Pet Walk” in previous years, although they have switched out the tradition for Dog Daze of Summer which is tied to their 60th anniversary with the theme “Making Life Better.”

For the first year, the event will also allow attendees and their furry family members to stay and watch a free movie in the park. Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs from home to watch “The Secret Life of Pets.”

Dog Daze of Summer will take place between 3 and 7 p.m. and will be located at Hesperia Civic Plaza Park, 15833 Smoke Tree St., Hesperia. For more information, call 760-244-5488.
