Commission to consider motocross proposal

Star Editor

The Hesperia Planning Commission will consider a proposal on Thursday that would keep open the motocross racetrack at U.S. Highway 395 near Main Street.

The proposed conditional use permit will reauthorize use of the facility. However, applicant CEMX must make necessary improvements within that time frame, according to a staff report.

The Hesperia City Council initially approved the racetrack application in late 2004. Weekend riding was approved the following year, and CEMX was given an extension.

The following year, the city approved six evening pit-bike events. However, the company didn’t complete improvements such as on-site parking and improvements to several nearby streets by the deadline in late 2006.

Last fall, CEMX signed a lease and applied to reestablish use of the facility.

If approved by the Planning Commission, a proposed ordinance will go before the City Council for approval.

The Planning Commission meeting is at 6:30 on Thursday, March 11 at City Hall.

The motocross wasn't built by the City, nor do they maintain it. The operation is privately run. If you want a skate park, come up with the money and build it yourself. Do you think this is Pasadena?

The permit is for 3 years. It can be renewed but the site could also be used for other things, like a county fair, easily.

The article also failed to mention that the motocross park uses about 1 million gallons of water per month. 12 million gallons per year - enough for about 60 households.

The article fails to mention that the City of Hesperia now owns the property where the motorcycle park is located.
