HesperiaStar.com voters overwhelmingly approve of current school board

In one of the most voted-upon polls in HesperiaStar.com history, voters have overwhelmingly voiced their approval for the job the Hesperia Unified School District board is doing.

The poll question "Are things better or worse off than they were before Hardy Black, Robert Kirk and Lee Rogers became the controlling bloc on the school board?" went live on November 6 and ended November 14.

In those eight days, 381 votes were cast. Three hundred and forty-six votes -- or 90 percent -- were cast for things being better in the school district in the past 12 months. Twenty-eight votes -- or 7 percent -- were cast for things being worse. One vote was cast for things being about the same. Six votes were cast for "no opinion/don't know."

As I thought. You have no response. It's because these people have no reason for what they do. At least not any reason they tell the people.

And what was bad about Mr. Richardson? So bad that we have to pay him to stay home? I don't really know.

My opinion is that 6th grade schools are better because they can create a culture and system of operations more like a middle school. That is good for the kids. A small school environment is also good for kids and staff, in my opinion. I don't think the new board found out what the community wanted on this. That's what I'm saying. Something else could be effective too, but to jump right in and close these schools for no real reason didn't make sense to me.

Why did this story get bumped from most commented story? Curious to know, Hope it is not intentional. Busines owner has made some great points in my opinion.

Again, no information given. Why are the 6th grade only schools better, what do they do that integrated schools do not? As for the removal of superindendant Richardson with pay, remember this is the one issue ALL board members agreed on. Am i happy he was paid to leave? no, but sometimes you have to take the bad with the good. Please if anyone is able or willing to clearly state what is worse now than 1 year ago and why a 6th grade only school is better please either post it or tell me where to go find the same information you have.

There are more reasons than just 6th grade schools, but that's a big one for me. They did away with those almost immediately upon taking office. I don't understand that. I also don't understand why they were so anxious to get rid of the superintendent that they fired him with pay. I don't see how our district is better for those two reasons, though I have several more.

This issue of the sixth grade only schools appears to be biggest reason if not the ONLY reason people are upset at the current board actions. Can someone please explain to me why they feel 6th grade only schools are better than integrated schools or schools of choice. I prefer the option for schools of choice because i know from my experience they offer the BEST education possible, period. The cost however is parental involvement.

My daughter got exactly the education I wanted her to get at a sixth grade school. Now my son won't get the same education because they have killed his opportunity for that. I don't think the board plans on ruining education, I think their only plan is what they cooked up with HTA. But the result is the same whether they planned on ruining the district, or if they just cause it out of reckless actions.

Don't get me wrong, I value the education my kids get for more than the monitary reasons. I also know that I am able to make sure my kids are well educated by taking a part in the process rather than simply dropping them off, which requires that i go to 3 different schools because of the grades my children are in. The problem is that most if not all people who are reading this posting are thinking only of the quality of education TODAY with little regard to what the quality will be well into the future. By taking note of how important the future quality of the school district to our businesses I was hoping that people might see why change today is needed for the future. Everyone always throws out the OUR CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE line, but our kids will grow up soon enough and THIER CHILDREN WILL BE OUR FUTURE and if we don't plan for that event we will certainly be in trouble. I would ask the informed parent 2 things. First are YOUR kids getting the education you want them to get? if not, why have you not done something about? and second, do you really think the boards long term plans are to ruin your kids education?

Jaime, what exactly is the new board's long term plan?

Local Business Owner, you might share the same goal with our parents. However, your motivation is for-profit oriented versus ours is not. Our veted interest represents our future and hope, which are none other than our own children. I support Mr Kirk's strong school board leadership with vision for the future.

It's me again. Funny that someone who calls themself a REAL local business owner said i am either a fake or stupid for being invloved in politics and then continues to comment. Lets review business owners who are deeply political. Rita Vogler, city council and business owner. Thurston smith, city council and business owner. Tad Honeycut, city council and multiple business owner. Oh yeah, Bruce Minton, HUSD Board President and business owner. Many political issues strike directly at the survival of business owners and these individuals thought enough of our city to get involved and try to effect the changes that will benefit us all. While i hardly agree with these indiiduals in every case, they at least recognize that a business owner can not stand by and LET things happen or they will go out of business. I don't think that the people posting on this site realize the how important a good school district is to not only the citizens but the business owners. The qaulity of our school system dictates who chooses to move to Hesperia. Good schools attract better educated more affluent parents who spend more money, while poor schools leave a vacuum that is filled with the rejects from elsewhere. I prefer to be proactive in trying to build a better school district and reap the rewards of a strong community in the future.

Our board members are working very hard to improve the qualities of education which our children will receive in the future. The changes are the necessary by- product to meet their long term plan. Our good parent's job is to support them with open arms.

There is a tendency here to resort to insults. It is a shame. I for one suggested arrogance by some based on snide remarks on this thread for that I apologize. There are going to be different points of veiw. I am not delusional, uninformed , in denial or live in a fantasy world. I am a voter interested in this topic . I take that seriously.

It's interesting that Kirk/Black supporters accuse others of being in self denial. I only wish these fearless leaders would actually practice this peace love and understanding that is always touted on these boards. Is that what they talked about with Hank before they canned him?

JeB, you have been in self denial mode for long time, perhaps due to your past unpleasant life experiences. Open your heart to accept positive things and start making true friends.

Raul, you obviously don't know me. It is your opinion that I'm not a peace and positive preaching citizen. For the record, I do not know anyone that goes by the name of Raul. But if you do knw me, then call me tonight and we can discuss love, peace, and preaching.

JeB, I have known you for some time now. When will you start loving people? Please count your blessings in your life and become a positive and peace preaching citizen.

Interesting that I did answer Local Business Owner with 7 specific reasons I do not think our district is better off. My post seems to have disappeared.

Insider, I welcome your comments but please elaborate on what politically motivated false rumors I have spread. I have spoken to some current board members, some past board members, current district staff, teachers and administrators. I have also read every board meeting minutes posted on the HUSD site and have been attending board meetings. I post with my true initials and not some made up name. You've made a claim and I respectfully request you back it up with some substance.
